VMworld 2019 EU Security

Things to Watch for

Following a successful rendition of VMworld US in San Francisco, VMworld Europe is only a little more than a month away. This time around, the theme for our security audience will be extending our vision of “Intrinsic Security” pervasively from every work-load to data center to multi-cloud to edge. There will be a heavier emphasis on new product capabilities and you will get a glimpse into features like distributed IDPS (intrusion detection and prevention systems), multi-cloud policy federation, and branch firewalling. Additionally, we will be unveiling Carbon Black integrations designed to enhance server workload protection.

Below are sessions catered specifically toward security-minded professionals. Use the suggestions below to customize your own catalog, and most importantly, keynote attendees will have the chance to win a pair of Bose headphones so make sure to prioritize these sessions!

For networking sessions, please refer to this blog.

Security Keynotes

  1. Showcase Keynote: Intrinsic Security – How Your VMware Infrastructure Can Turn the Tide in Cybersecurity [SEC3412KE]

Security threats, breaches, and exploits are becoming more prevalent with no end in sight. Worse, with adoptions of cloud, new applications, and mobile digital workspace, the problem is only getting harder to solve. There must be a new approach to cybersecurity. Fortunately, the answer lies at your fingertips. For years, VMware has been building proven products for software infrastructure: vSphere, NSX, vSAN, VMware Cloud, Workspace ONE. You may not consider them for security, but they are perfectly positioned to support your apps, data, and users, and when used in conjunction with security products like AppDefense, these products provide tremendous value to your security teams. Attend this showcase keynote to hear Tom Corn, VMware’s SVP/GM of Security Technologies and Strategy, and Shawn Bass, VMware’s CTO of End User Computing, reveal VMware’s security strategy and vision. You will learn about the latest advancements in the VMware portfolio, and see a live attack demo that shows how various components are coming together to solve the security problem.

  1. Showcase Keynote: Networking and Security for the Cloud Era [NETS3413KE]

There has never been a more exciting (or challenging) time to be in networking. The cloud, application developers, compute and data at the edge, IoT are driving a new wave of innovation and digital transformation. Meanwhile, the network is being asked to connect it all. Come to this showcase keynote to hear Tom Gillis, SVP/GM of NSBU, share the latest roadmap for the Virtual Cloud Network, VMware’s vision for networking in the digital age. You will hear about the latest innovations and see key demonstrates of technology that are transforming networking and security. You will also hear from forward-thinking organizations and networking and security leaders that are embracing the vision of a Virtual Cloud Network and the NSX portfolio as a blueprint to: A single, consistent operational network fabric for hybrid and multi-cloud environments Deliver a one-touch experience for automating network and policy provisioning for your applications. Collecting and leveraging the insights gathered from the infrastructure to provide better security policies to protect your business. This session is highly recommended for those attending VMware NSX, VMware NSX Cloud, VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud, and VMware AppDefense sessions throughout the week.

Security Sessions

  1. Introduction to the VMware NSX Service-Defined Firewall[SAI1847BE]

Earlier this year at the RSA Security Conference VMware introduced the future of internal network and application security, the Service-defined Firewall. In this session, we will explain the concept of “intrinsic security” and introduce you to the industry’s first purpose-built internal firewall designed to mitigate lateral movement of threats in hybrid cloud environments. We will discuss why traditional perimeter firewalls fall short when deployed to secure east-west traffic and protect workloads, and introduce you to the key attributes of the Service-defined Firewall that make it the ideal solution for operationalizing micro-segmentation and internal firewalling. Don’t miss this introductory level session on VMware’s latest security offering.
